About this coffee

Sourced by our agency

This washed coffee is harvested and prepared by Metad at the Chelbessa station, in the Yirgacheffe appellation. Metad was created by members of the diaspora who, after years in the United States, returned to their homeland.

They decided to promote Ethiopia's most famous product on the international market: coffee. With a view to restoring this product to its former glory, they promote washed coffee, complex in the cup and finely traced, certified organic.

This approach, combined with the company's involvement in development projects, convinced Belco to set up a solid partnership with Metad.

Station Chelbessa (SNAP)

The washing station is located in the village of Chelbessa, in the Danche area, in the Gedeo zone, in the Gedeb woreda. It is located at an altitude of over 2,000 metres and was set up recently, in 2019, by SNAP. SNAP selects red cherries from 650 growers who work the land around Chelbessa. The farm has 120 drying beds and employs 12 permanent workers. The coffee grows here in semi-forest, under shade trees and close to food crops such as bananas. SNAP has installed tiled fermentation tanks and 164 drying beds, 100 for washed coffees and 64 for plain coffees.

A few words about SNAP

SNAP was established on 2008 in Addis Ababa. It was created by Ato Sisay. This entrepreneur man, choses to select the best coffees from Yirgacheffe and Guji, to send them on international market. To insure this high quality, SNAP is working closely with the outgrowers of the company. SNAP manages 3 washing and drying stations. Two are located in Gedeo Zone, in Chelelektu and Kochere woredas (districts). The other one is in Guji Zone, at Nensebo (West Arsi). SNAP is preparing coffee lots very carefully and the company is often recognized for its work. Different coffees from SNAP won international prices.
