Lycaste is the name of the orchid native to the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range

Sourced by our agency in El Salvador

Lycaste is the name of the orchid native to the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range, where this coffee is grown. It is a very popular orchid in the region, and was planted on the farm by the father of Fernando Escobar, the producer.
This washed coffee comes from two farms: Ferme Miramar and Ferme San Francisco, located in Juayua, El Salvador. Fernando Escobar is the 5th generation of coffee grower in his family, but the first to process and export his own coffee. An activity to which he has devoted himself full-time since 2014.
When we met, Fernando told us about his plans: "First of all, I want to make coffee a sustainable business, continue exporting, support the end of deforestation in our forests and promote Salvadoran coffee. I want to improve my washing station so that it's more efficient, uses less water and enhances the coffee produced!"

The terroir Ilamatepec

Ilamatepec is the largest coffee-producing region in El Salvador, reaching altitudes of up to 2,400 metres. It is very well known for its quality coffee. It is probably where the first coffee tree was planted.
This chain of volcanoes, called the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range, includes lots of craters (Ataco, Apaneca, Juayua, etc.) and one of the most active volcanoes in El Salvador, Ilamatepec, also known as Santa Ana.
Many local producers have won international competitions, the best represented varieties being Bourbon (64%) and Pacas (26%).
