Coffee from a sustainability assessment program

Thanks to the CRECER standard, our partner Racafé supports producers in a process of continuous improvement towards sustainability.

Sourced by our agency in Colombia

What are the objectives of the CRECER standard?

This standard has developed a platform for mapping Colombia's regions, with the aim of integrating all of them by 2025. To guarantee the future of producers, the CRECER programme promotes the use of natural resources, from cultivation to drying. The programme also ensures coffee quality by monitoring drying and fermentation.

How can producers be part of the programme?

They have to meet 24 sustainability indicators, which they rate from 1 to 4. A diagnosis is made to understand where the producer currently stands. The aim is not to get them to spend money on infrastructure to meet the standards, but to use their existing resources.

We didn't call this coffee 'Lemon' for nothing! In the cup, you'll discover a beautiful aromatic complexity between the acidity of citrus, the sweetness of caramel and the sweetness of honey.

The terroir Pitalito

Since 2012, the Department of Huila and the municipality of Pitalito have been the leading coffee producers in Colombia. By 2018, Pitalito accounted for 2.2% of the national coffee production and 12.7% of the department's production. Located in the southeastern part of the Department of Huila, Pitalito lies within the Magdalena Valley and at the junction of the Central and Eastern Cordilleras, in the southern region of Alto Magdalena. It covers an area of 653 km², sits at an altitude of 1,318 meters above sea level, and has an average temperature ranging from 18 to 21°C. It has frequently been awarded the “Cup of Excellence.” The Valley of Laboyos is part of the Colombian Massif and the Andean Belt, which was designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1979. Its strategic location provides it with privileged environmental conditions, making it one of the municipalities with the highest number of properties acquired for the protection of micro-watersheds.
