About this coffee

This coffee is produced by our Congolese partner Great Lakes Coffee belonging to the Nicolaides family. Cypriot and impanted in the Democratic Republic of Congo for more than 100 years, this family manages the production of several farms and accompanies many small producers in the Congo (and in Uganda as well).
This terroir coffee comes from the South zone of Lake Kivu, Minova terroir. Bourbon variety and grade 3, it is grown between 1600 and 2000 meters above sea level. The cherries are bought by the same washing station, which makes it possible to have a process of pulping and fermentation - if there is one - very homogeneous. Drying is done by lots to better control humidity. Our partner Great Lakes Coffee brings us its field expertise by its perfect knowledge of the Great Lakes region of Africa. This expertise and high quality of cherries processing allows us to increase the quality of our sourcing in this area.

The region Kivu

The Kivu region offers an exceptional situation for coffee growing. The complexity of the soil, the high altitude and the rainfall conditions make the coffees of this region unique. It is also the main Arabica coffee producing region in the country. Today, the DRC has approximately 11,000 producers. Production began to take off in the 1930s, developed by the Belgians. Arabica coffee represents 1/5th of the country's total production.
