About this coffee

Thanks to the energy of our agency in Colombia and our partners at Origin Coffee Lab, we are very proud to present this local coffee from Utcubamba, in the Amazonas region.

This region is home to a very rich ecosystem, and the coffees are produced under shade. The producers in this region are highly motivated to work on quality, in order to enhance and protect their environment.

Particular attention has been paid to post-harvest processing of this blend, to improve the cup profile of this coffee. After harvesting and pulping, it ferments for between 18 and 36 hours. It is then washed and dried on a patio for around twelve days. In this very humid region, that's quite a feat!

The terroir Utcubamba

The province of Utcubamba is one of the seven that make up the department of Amazonas in the northeastern part of Peru. It is bordered on the north by the province of Bagua and the province of Condorcanqui; on the east by the province of Bongará; on the south by the province of Luya; and on the west by the department of Cajamarca. The Amazon is one of the 24 regions that form the country of Peru. This region is home to a very rich ecosystem, the "Yungas" jungles and a tropical rainforest that covers 70% of the territory that stretches from Ecuador to the summit of the Cordillera del Condor. The roads are winding and few in number, which adds a little spice to the transport of our beloved green coffees. The fauna and flora are rich: hummingbirds, pumas, opossums, armadillos, monkeys, catfish, .... Unfortunately, this part of the Amazon is threatened by deforestation. The existing tree species, such as mahogany and cedar, are highly sought after. Encouraging production in the shade and preserving the forest is a priority to protect this unique area.
