An initiative to support women coffee producers.

Women play a vital role, taking part in every stage of the supply chain but often handling the most time-consuming, most seasonal and lowest-paid tasks (like sowing, harvesting and sorting). Studies show that when women manage household income, there are many benefits: better child education, health, economic stability and overall family wellbeing.

This year, we are celebrating Christmas with Oscar Daza's coffees, our partner in Colombia since 2017. 

A few years ago, Belco and producer Oscar Daza (owner and manager of La Pradera) decided to invest in the purchase of a plot of land (under the project name “Pilos Del Café”) backing onto the local public school in Aratoca.

On this plot, the school's students learn about agronomy and agroecology and discover all the stages of coffee production, from planting to processing. The coffees produced on this plot enable the school to continue operating year after year.

This year, we want to treat the school children to a festive Christmas snack and finance the planting of young Laurina coffee trees, a rare variety, on their plot.

For every kilo of coffee you buy, €0.10 will be donated to the Christmas project for the children—and Belco will double the amount!

<li>Timber trees: ​Cenícero, guachipilín, conacaste, chestnut, volador, cedar, funera, guayacán, ebony, ciricote, madrecacao, acacia mangium, poró, tihuilote, hormigo, carreto gavilán, birch, oak.</li>
<li>A great variety of fruit trees: ​Jackfruit, loquat, zapote, guaycume, paterna, mango (7 varieties), lemon, coconut, guava, cashew (cashew), morro, caimito, avocado, manzanita de agua, ojushte. We can also mention the cushtan and the patashtes (theobroma bicolor), which belong to the same family of cacao. ​&nbsp;</li>

All these trees form a protective shade forest that allows the cacao trees to be productive and healthy. ​&nbsp;&nbsp;

On trouve dans la Finca Chiquihuat : - des arbres à bois : Le cenícero, le guachipilín, le conacaste, le châtaignier, le volador, le cèdre, le funera, le guayacán, l'ébène, le ciricote, le madrecacao, l'acacia mangium, le poró, le tihuilote, l'hormigo, le carreto gavilán, le bouleau, le chêne. - et une grande variété d’arbres fruitiers : Le jacquier, le loquat, le zapote, le guaycume, le paterna, le manguier (7 variétés), le citronnier, le cocotier, le goyavier, l’anacardier (noix de cajou), le morro, le caimito, l’avocatier, manzanita de agua, ojushte. On peut également mentionner le cushtan et le patashtes (theobroma bicolore), qui appartiennent à la même famille que le cacaoyer. Tous ces arbres forment une forêt d’ombrage protectrice permettant aux cacaoyers d'être productifs et en bonne santé.
