Cafetalera Herbazu is the story of seven brothers and sisters producers

The first production of these plants was harvested in 2015 and won first prize in the Cup of Excellence.

In 2010, Antonio Barrantes planted the Kenyan variety SL28, registered as "San Roque", on his Cafetalera Herbazu estate.

The production of Cafetalera Herbazu represents around 2000 fanegas, a wooden box used as a unit of measurement in agricultural circles, equivalent to around 55 liters.

A few words about Antonio Barrantes

We met Antonio Barrantes of Cafetalera Herbazu in Lourdes de Naranjo, Costa Rica. He showed us around his micro-mill, which he set up in the early 2000s, when the speciality coffee trend was just beginning and microlots did not yet exist. At the time, it was a huge financial risk for Antonio and his family to go into business for themselves. But they were right!

After a difficult harvest in 2022 and despite a drop in volume in 2023, Tonio's coffees are back in our range!
