Sourced by our agency

This forest coffee comes from the Dimtu farm, located in the Mancity area, at an altitude of over 2,000 metres, in the Guji appellation.

The coffee produced here is of the highest quality; both on their farm of origin and during processing in Addis Ababa.

The washed coffee is fermented in a fermentation vat for around 24 hours, under expert supervision, before drying on raised beds. The station includes a built-in tank and a source of clean water, which they are allowed to use with the agreement of the local population.

The farm Mancity

The Mancity farm is run by the Dimtu company in the Guji appellation, in the Odo Shakiso woreda. Mancity is the equivalent of a locality in the village of Tero. Here, coffee is grown on more than 150 hectares at an altitude of around 2,000 metres. Dimtu also works with small producers who have their plots in the immediate vicinity of the farm.

The forest environment is dense. The shade trees protect the coffee trees by providing conditions of humidity and soil fertility that are highly conducive to their good health. The wanza tree, for example, can reach 25 m and is often associated with coffee trees because its moderate shade is very good for ripening the cherries.

Mancity coffee trees are also part of mixed farming systems. Adjacent plots are planted with bananas, avocados, mangoes and sugar cane. Lastly, the farm has a nursery where coffee plants can be renewed and various shade trees replanted.

A few words about Dimtu

DIMTU is a company set up in 2013 by Ato Getahew and Ato Aschalew, with the mission of adding value to the coffees of the Guji appellation. DIMTU's coffee is harvested in the forests of Guji, on an area of 150 hectares owned by DIMTU, as well as by nearby farmers in the Odo Shakiso woreda. Each farmer who brings his coffee to DIMTU has the opportunity to be trained in more sustainable practices.

DIMTU has a washing station and a drying station, with 250 raised beds. Drying takes place under shade, with precise control of humidity levels. The coffee is then sent to an organic factory 20km from Addis Ababa, before being exported.

DIMTU also runs a coffee nursery for local farmers. DIMTU also distributes shade trees, such as Albizia. A project is also underway to group together women coffee growers to form a single lot.
