The coffee farm La Esperanza in Santa Ana, Guática, has a rich history that reflects the region's coffee tradition. Located in the heart of the Coffee Axis, this farm has witnessed over 200 years of dedication to coffee cultivation since its founding in the early 19th century by Secundino Trejos and his wife Margarita.
From its beginnings, Finca La Esperanza stood out as an ideal place for coffee cultivation, and over the decades, the farm has expanded and modernized, incorporating new coffee varieties and more advanced farming techniques. This evolution allowed the farm to adapt to changes in the market, continually improving the quality of its product.
In the 1900s, the farm passed into the hands of Benjamín, Secundino's natural son. Benjamín continued his father's legacy until he reached an advanced age. He then decided to entrust the management of the farm to his three unmarried daughters. With a deep respect for their father's legacy, these women endeavored to maintain the traditional techniques and values he had instilled in them. However, recognizing the need for more vigorous management to ensure the farm's future, they decided to sell it to someone they trusted completely, who could continue their father's legacy.
This is how the farm came into the hands of Gonzaga Blandón and María Alcira Tusarma, one of Benjamín's granddaughters. Together, they have tirelessly worked for over 30 years to keep alive the spirit and passion for coffee that characterized its founder, and to pass on this legacy to their children and grandchildren.
The history of La Esperanza is not only a story of survival but also an inspiration on how traditions can endure and evolve, always keeping alive the love for coffee and the countryside.
