About this coffee

Las Tolas is a farm owned by Arnaud Causse since 2004. You may know him from Belco as Director of Transition. But Arnaud is also a singular producer, with a background as an agricultural engineer and many years of experience in the 4 corners of the world.

This washed Java is grown in the heart of one of the richest, but also most vulnerable, regions in terms of biodiversity, the Choco Andino, on former pastureland reforested by Arnaud.

In the shade of the trees, the cherries ripen slowly, between 9 and 10 months. Arnaud's washed coffees are pulped on the day the best cherries are harvested. They ferment for 36 hours before being washed, then dry for 12 to 18 days.

The farm Las Tolas

Las Tolas is Arnaud Causse's first farm in Ecuador. It is the fruit of a project that Arnaud has been pursuing with passion and perseverance for many years.

Las Tolas means "small mound of earth formed by man". Dating back to 200 BC, these small artificial hills found on the farm today may have been tombs or places of worship. They give this place a rather mysterious and magical character. The farm lies between the two mountain ranges of the Cordillera, in a humid equatorial climate.

Located in the heart of the Andean Chocó, one of the planet's 7 biodiversity 'hotspots', Las Tolas enjoys an atypical production environment between clouds and forests. Several varieties of coffee are grown on this deep soil, whose composition has been enriched by volcanic eruptions: Pacamara, Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai and Java.

A few words about Arnaud Causse

Arnaud Causse is first and foremost a man of challenges. For several decades, his passion for coffee has taken our travelling agronomist to the 4 corners of the world: Kenya, Costa Rica, Gabon, etc. He has also developed projects in El Salvador and the Galapagos Islands. He has also developed projects in El Salvador and the Galapagos Islands.

Immersed in the quest for excellence, he set up the Las Tolas farm, planting coffee trees in the heart of a natural forest. Then, after a spell in the Dominican Republic in Colombia and Peru, still working on coffee, Arnaud returned to Ecuador and founded Las Terrazas del Pisque, a farm in the middle of the desert.

Today, Arnaud has joined Belco and is the Transition Director, while continuing to manage his farms!
