Edilberto Vergara and his wife Nubia are from the department of Cundinamarca. They began growing coffee in the south of the Huila region about 30 years ago, having both come from coffee-producing families. Today, Edilberto and Nubia have 5 children and cultivate 16 hectares of coffee at their Las Flores farm.
The Vergara family owns two farms, Las Flores and another small plantation lower down in the valley that produces Pink Bourbon near a bamboo forest. Four years ago, and with the help of his sons Carlos, a coffee producer, and Jhoan, who works at the Cadefihuila cooperative, Edilberto began experimenting with different types of fermentation and planting new varieties. Las Flores currently cultivates the Pink Bourbon, Tabi, Caturra, Maracaturra, Java and Catimor varieties.
